Robin William Tribute

Robin Williams was honored in front of Hollywood’s finest at the 2014 Prime time Emmy Awards on August 25. The beloved actor who tragically died by his own hands was remembered by his dear friend, Billy Crystal, in an emotional and touching ceremony.

The Emmy Awards‘ In Memoriam segment was dedicated to the late Robin WilliamsBilly Crystal spoke about his life with Robin, reminiscing on their fond memories together. “It’s very hard to talk about him in the past because he was so present in all of our lives for almost 40 years,” Billy told the star-studded crowd. “He was the brightest star in the comedy galaxy.”

Hollywood was shaken by the sudden death of Robin Williams, and on August 25, 2014, the TV community honored the late actor and comedian in an overwhelmingly emotional tribute, lead by Billy Crystal.

Sara Bareilles opened up the In Memoriam ceremony with a beautiful ballad, honoring this past year’s fallen stars including, Paul WalkerPhilip Seymour HoffmanJames Garner and Lauren Bacall.
Then, Billy took center stage. “He made us laugh hard. Every time you saw him…he made us laugh, big time.”
Billy reminisced on his favorite memories with Robin. “I spent many happy hours with Robin on stage. The brilliance was astounding…we were such great friends…As genius as he was on stage, he was the greatest friend you could ever imagine. Supportive, protective, loving.”
Staying composed, he continued, “[His] beautiful light will continue to shine on us forever. The glow will be so bright, it will warm your heart. It’ll make your eyes glisten, and you’ll think to yourself, Robin Williams, what a concept.”
Footage from Robin’s first appearance on The Tonight Show was shown, followed by his Inside The Actors Studio appearance, which was voted the fan favorite episode of all time. Many more of Robin’s incredible standup acts and late night appearances were shown, ending the memorial with a moment of silence.

Billy, who costarred in the 1997 movie Father’s Day with Robin, planned a “very big” special tribute, 
“[Billy] wants Robin to be remebered forever and has prepared something he is really proud of for the Emmy telecast,” our source close to Billy revealed. “He is going to do his best not to cry but that is in no way a promise. Its going to be an incredible moment in honoring his friend.”
It certainly was an incredible moment, and Billy wasn’t the only Emmy attendee who honored Robin. Jimmy Kimmel wore rainbow Mork & Mindy suspenders at the show to honor the comedic genius’ famous sitcom.
Robin was tragically found dead on the morning of August 11 in his Tiburon, Calif. home. At an August 12 press conference, police confirmed the actor’s death was a suicide, and the primary cause of death was asphyxiation.
